Film Project Research- #4 White Chicks

The fourth movie that I decided to watch for my film is White Chicks.  This comedic film is about two black FBI agents that decide to go undercover as white females to figure out who were trying to kidnap girls.  During the first two minutes of the film, you discover who the 2 main FBI characters are.  In the first scene, the FBI agents are trying to solve a crime but they are both dressed up as gas station clerks, when a drug dealer comes and tries to sell them "ice cream."  There are a variety of camera shots that were used in this scene.  Some include; over the shoulder (over the dealer looking at the two cops), a wide shot (to show that they are in the gas station and the costumes), and a close up shot (of the main characters and their facial expressions).  The editing techniques that were used to film were; shot reverse shot (of the deal being made), along with an eye-line match between the cop and the dealer.  A sound technique that was used during the scene was an ambient sound which represented the authenticity of the two FBI agents acting like clerks.  A mise-en-scene technique that was used were costumes and make-up.  This technique helped to stage the cops to look like gas station clerks versus them actually looking like real FBI agents.  In the first two minutes of the opening scene, there were no opening credits.  The budget for this film was $37 million and the film produced approximately $113 million worldwide.  The move White Chicks was nominated for and won the Best Comedy Award and Teen Choice Award.

Planning- Filming

During the past couple weeks, it has been difficult trying to get a good time for everyone to film.  Once we did get everyone together, it was very easy to film because we already had all the props and locations set up.  On Friday, December 15 we tried to get everyone together but were unable to do so.  After many times of trying to get together, December 18th we finally all got together after school.  For editing, we decided to use Morgan's Macbook computer instead of a laptop.  This would give us a bigger screen along with a more dependent computer.  I took us a couple hours to edit and we are continuously still editing our film.  The editing app that we are using on Morgan's Macbook is called "IMovie".

3rd Quarter Submission Feedback

Just like last quarter, we went over everyone's magazine or film and talked about what we liked and the critiques.  My group and I changed a variety of things from the last quarter submission.  We changed the start of the film along with cutting out many scenes.  The feedback that we received was mostly positive but we need to add some of the scenes we cut back into the film.  We needs to also cut some of the beginning scene where the drome is flying through the neighborhood.  That scene was too long and takes up most of the film.  ON the positive note, many people thought our film was funny especially when Donte (the dad) and Hannah (the mom) are in the car talking and there is an awkward pause before exiting the car.  Our film is close to being done but there still is many things that we can improve before the final submission.
